If you are seeking for a powerful detox juice, I can highly recommend the wheatgrass juice. As I have blogged earlier in planting wheatgrass, wheatgrass juice is very potent and highly nutritional.

With one shot (1 ounce) of fresh wheatgrass juice, your body can benefit from its nutritional value that comprise of all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes that is required by the body.

The wheatgrass juice is a known powerful cleanser and may start an immediate reaction with toxins and mucus in the stomach. Its high content of chlorophyll will help to bring toxins stored away in cells or fatty tissues into the bloodstream.

Because the wheatgrass juice is highly potent and effective, you can only drink 1 ounce a day for starters. Also because the taste is so raw and green, you may want to try the following variations:

Carrot-Wheatgrass Juice — 1 oz. wheatgrass juice, 3 oz. carrot juice.

Pineapple-Wheatgrass Juice — 1 oz. wheatgrass juice, 4-6 oz pineapple juice.

Mixed Vegetable Juice — 1 oz. wheatgrass juice, 8 oz. carrot juice, 2 oz. celery juice

Wheatgrass Cocktail – 1 oz. wheatgrass juice, 1 lemon or lime (juiced), 6 oz. fresh mineral water

I personally prefer the Wheatgrass Cocktail as I enjoy the zesty flavor of the lime. The mixed vegetable juice is a XXXX detox juice as it is all packed with key detox ingredients, namely wheatgrass, celery and carrot ! If you love the taste of celery and you want the extra detox effect, this is indeed ideal.

If you are like me – a juice lover, I am very sure you have a faithful juicer. However, do you know how to provide the best care for your machine so that it can maintain its peak performance condition?

Here are some handy tips that I would love to share:

Always clean your juicers immediately after using it.

If you are juicing a lot of fruit or vegetables at a time, occasionally run water through the juicer once or twice to remove the pulp.

If you are using strongly colored or pungent fruits or vegetable, you can also run water through the juicer occasionally or alternatively, process a few pieces of apple through the juicer- this should prevent subsequent juicers from being discolored or unfavorably flavored.

Make sure that you check your owners manual. If the model allows, soak the juicer or clean it with a little bleach to remove stains that will collect over time.

If soaking is not an option, use a solution of 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda diluted in 1 cup of water to clean the stains.

As a child, I never like celery. Its distinct flavor was not palatable then. Even as I was growing up, I hardly touch celery.

I only begun to enjoy celery after educating myself on the health benefits of celery. From what I have learned, celery is an excellent source of vitamin C. It is a very good source of dietary fiber, potassium, foliate, molybdenum, manganese and vitamin B6. Celery is also a good source of calcium, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, magnesium, vitamin A, phosphorous and iron.

What attracts me to celery is really its effect on high blood pressure. My mother has high blood pressure and genetically, I may have high blood pressure in due time. As preventive measure, eating celery can help in reducing high blood pressure as it give the effect of calmness. Another reason why I am drawn to celery is that it can help in weight loss. This is because celery has almost zero calorie.

The other benefits of celery includes:

Celery clears uric acid from painful joints and may help the treatment of arthritis and rheumatic problems.

Celery also helps the kidney an acts an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.

Adding celery into my diet wasn’t easy at the start. I reckon you will have to acquire the taste of celery over time. I have tried various ways to add celery into my diet and in my humble opinion, the best way to eat celery is to drink it up.

One of my favorite juice recipe is the Celery, Carrot & Apple Juice. It is a slight variation to the Apple-Carrot Detox Juice.

The Celery, Carrot and Apple Juice is a refreshing juice packed with beta carotenes and potassium.

To make this juice, you will need to blend 3 sticks of celery, 4 carrots and 3 apples into the juicer. Once done, drink it up immediately and you will benefit from its calming effect and high calcium content.

One of my favourite detox juice is the Apple-Carrot detox juice with a hint of ginger.

The apple-carrot juice is highly nutritional:

Carrots are a good source of Vitamin A and Beta Carotenes, providing anti-ageing and cancer-fighting antioxidants.

Apples have pectin that helps to break down toxins in the intestines and help maintain a healthy bowel function

Ginger is an excellent tonic for the entire digestive system.

This juice is so nutritional that it is a staple drink of the Gerson Institute of Cancer Therapy. To make this delicious detox juice, you will need 8 medium carrots, 2 Granny Smith apples and a slice of ginger root (to taste). The ginger provides a nice touch of spice, so use it sparingly – it’s powerful stuff !

The prune is a great beauty food that helps clear the skin. This is because prunes are a good source of vitamin A ((in the form of beta-carotene) , antioxidant, dietary fiber, potassium and copper. Imagine what will the power of prunes do to your skin if you drink them daily ! :)

To make this sweet skin juice with a hint of lemon, stew a packet of prunes in the juice and peel from 2 lemons. Drink 1/2 glass of this mixture every morning.

Spinach Orange Juice

Mix together 2 cups of dark green spinach, 1 cup parsley and 3 cups orange juice in a liquidizer and sieve. The mixture is quite delicious and works wonders on the complexion as it is rich in iron and Vitamin C which are needed for clear complexion.

If you drink a couple of this juice each day the improvement in your skin is incredible.

Oh, in case you are not aware, spinach is in season (April) now.

By: Kathlyn Lee

Often overlooked, when the liver is overstressed, all other organs start to dysfunction. Our liver constantly working to break down not only the environment and external toxins that invade our body, but also those produced during normal metabolic processes in the body – *internal toxins*.

The liver is perhaps the most congested of all organs in our body. Too much fat, chemicals, intoxicants, and denatured food all disrupt the hundreds of intricate biochemical processes of the liver.

One of the first signs of liver disharmony is emotional difficulty related to anger: impatience, frustration, resentment, violence, belligerence, rudeness, edginess, arrogrance, stubbornness, aggression and an impulsive and explosive personality. Depression, mood swings as well as excessively emotional in general are liver-related. Tiredness, dark circles under eyes, poor digestion and dull skin are also symptoms of poor liver function.

Love your liver- cleanse, detoxify and strengthen it, allowing, in turn for
your internal system to perform at optimum levels. Try some of these liver detox recipes:

Recipe 1:

Drink this mixture first thing in the morning for 10 days continuously.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup of warm water
2 tbsp of pure lemon juice
1 tbsp of olive oil
1 tbsp of black-strap molasses
some cayenne pepper

Recipe 2:

This is a good breakfast drink and probably the best liver cleansing tonic.

Ingredients:
1 carrot
1/2 beetroot
1 stick celery
1 cucumber

Method:

1. Thoroughly wash all vegetables.
2. Peel and dice the carrots and beetroot.
3. Dice the celery and cucumber.
4. Pass all vegetables through a juicer.
5. Drink the juice within a half hour
