I have been blogging about the danger of commercial sunscreen and I hope you are very well aware of the hidden dangers behind big and popular sunscreen names like Coppertone, Banana Boat and the like….

Even organic sunscreens can be dubious. Brands like Aubrey Organics, Lavera, Alba Botanica are not much safer either despite being organics. Sadly, it is blatant misuse and misinformation of the term “organics”.

Along my search for trustable and safer sunscreen, I also discovered that zinc oxide sunscreen is safer than the titanium oxide ones. I have published my report on Zinc Oxide vs Titanium Oxide sunscreen and you can read them here.

Obviously, zinc oxide is a natural sun block ingredient and today, I am going to share with you a homemade Zinc Oxide Sunscreen. This recipe is of courtesy of SpaIndex.com.

Homemade Zinc Oxide Sunscreen

Note: This recipe will leave a white nose “lifeguard style.”

1 Tbs zinc oxide
1 1/2 tsp light sesame oil
1 Tbs rosewater

Mix together the zinc oxide and sesame oil. Heat the mixture gently, using a double boiler, and stir well to mix. Remove from heat and slowly add the rosewater, as you continue stirring. Allow to cool completely, and store in a clean container with a tight lid, in the fridge. Yield: 2 oz. Keeps: Up to 10 days in the fridge.
