Organic Savings: 12 Foods You Don’t Have To Buy Organics

Going organic don’t have to be costly and I have blogged about ways to go organic without breaking the bank. Yes, we have heard thousand of times how beneficial it is to go organic and buy fresh organic produce. However, many people do find the expense of organic foods prohibitive.

According to Shoppers’ Guide to Pesticides in Produce (by Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit organization that advocates for policies that protect global and individual health), there are twelve foods (out of the 43 different fruit and vegetable categories) had the lowest pesticide load when conventionally grown. This result is based on the studies of nearly 43,000 pesticide tests. Consequently, they are the safest conventionally grown crops to consume:

  • Broccoli
  • Eggplant
  • Cabbage
  • Banana
  • Kiwi
  • Asparagus
  • Sweet peas (frozen)
  • Mango
  • Pineapple
  • Sweet corn (frozen)
  • Avocado
  • Onion

Of the 43 different fruit and vegetable categories tested, these 12 fruits and vegetables had the highest pesticide load, making them the most important to buy or grow organic:

  • Peaches
  • Apples
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Celery
  • Nectarines
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Lettuce
  • Grapes (imported)
  • Pears
  • Spinach
  • Potatoes
